Eukanuba Stage Stop: Day 6 Update

From Gerry on the trail:

Just a quick update today; it’s late and the alarm is set for 5 ( I know, distance mushers reading this are thinking “so what?”).

We had a solid run this morning, even if we had to give Hurricane a ride for about 12 miles due to a sore triceps. Some of my distance dogs come to the limit of their speed here; the distance of the stages is not the problem.

Again the times are very tight around fifth to seventh place. All of a sudden there are only two days of racing left. Overall the Streepers are in a good position to place first and second. There is a battle for third place between Bruce, Jerry B and JR, while Jeff Conn and I are in a race for sixth. I don’t want to concede defeat, but things need to go wrong for him and very well for me in order for me to get by him. A 54-minute gap separates me from the next crowd around Emilie, Dennis and Jerry S. Mixing between these groups seems unlikely but can happen. Anything can happen. Anytime.

Off to bed (if I’d prefer a sleeping bag in a snow bank I would have gone to Iditarod) — one day I’ll opt for the snow bank again.
